Angel on a Cloud

elbow on the window sill blowing smoke through the screen
it rolls into the fog that rolls down the street
it's four in the morning and I'm deep in thought
when I see a figure in the vacant lot.

in the dark but for my cigarette
and I can see the long hair of her silhouette
and I can hear her as she softly sings
rub my eyes, I see two wings
Lord it's an angel..........

angel on a cloud I found. I'd climbed too high.
she helped me down.
I don't know what I'd done if she hadn't come around.
and now that cloud and angel, have returned back to the sky.
I hope I can find them next time I am that high.

nevermind the barrel bars, the cartoon curves and metal cars
that fly drunk through the night, dizzy light, star to star.
I'm stumblin to a porch light, falling straight across the ground.
I'm ringing the doorbell to an angel on a cloud.

melt with me midnite made, the yarns are spun, the days a heap
she runs her hand along my lines, til I come to the edge of sleep.
soon as dreams start to sing soft beneath her blanket wing
I curl up smiling, safe and sound, beside an angel on a cloud.
